WYATT releases ‘RIDE ON' to radio nationally

September 21 - The award winning Saskatoon band WYATT released their highly anticipated follow up single ‘Ride On’ to Canadian Country Radio September 21st, 2009.  Co-written by Gordie Samson (Carrie Underwood) and produced by Noah Gordon (Johnny Reid, Emerson Drive, Jason Blaine), RIDE On is proof positive that the band has been working tirelessly writing & recording in preparation for an early 2010 album release.

Says singer-guitarist Scott Patrick, “Our new single Ride On is a great song about grabbing life and living it.  It fits really well into the universal themes on the album of ‘Living, Loving and Losing’. Working with Noah as a producer to help refine and shape our sound has been an incredible experience, but working with him as a songwriter has really allowed us to grow as artists.”   That growth is clearly evident with the release of their new single "RIDE ON"; a melodic, hook laden song that states unequivocally that there is a new group in Canada ready to make waves on the air!

WYATT is releasing their new single fresh off of the success of their debut single ‘Next To You’ which was released in March 2009.   “We are really grateful for the support we have received from Canadian Country Radio and from our fans.   We are fortunate to be where we are at this point in our careers, and we really have them to thank for being a huge part of our success to date.  It has been a great ride so far.”  says drummer Bray Hudson.

Fans of WYATT can request RIDE ON at Canadian Country radio stations starting September 21st, 2009.  They can catch a preview on-line at www.wyattmusic.com or on the band’s official MYSPACE page at www.myspace.com/wyattmusic2.

Canadian rock-country band WYATT experience at Big Valley Jamboree an eye-opener

August 3 - When WYATT came off stage at the Big Valley Jamboree on.Saturday night, it wasn’t to thunderous applause, but to the thunderous roar of the massive windstorm that devastated the festival site. The band was readying to do a sound check on the Molson Saloon Stage for their performance later
that evening when the storm hit.

According to drummer Bray Hudson, “We were about to start the sound check when stage manager Chuck Eaman ordered us to clear the stage and get all our gear into the storage wing at stage left. We didn’t even get that far. Chuck and I were pushing the drum riser towards that tent when it felt like someone
came and tried to pick up the stage!” Singer, guitarist Daniel Fortier adds, “I remember putting a couple of guitars into the tent, grabbing some more gear and was just headed back when I saw a huge wall of wind and dust hit the stage, ripping that 20’x20’ tent right off the stage deck. Our bass player Cam and singer/guitarist Scott were in the tent with the stage host Paul and as I yelled ‘LOOK OUT’, the entire tent tore loose and swept across the stage, scattering people and equipment across the stage and into the pit. The guys underneath were very lucky to only get away with some bumps, bruises and scrapes. We were fortunate that we were not still at the mic’s when that happened, or we would have ended up taking that eight foot drop into the pit.” The damage to the second stage included losing its complete left wing tent and the canvas roof. The PA system and backline gear on the left hand side of the stage toppled forward off the stage.

“I have never experienced something as powerful as this.” Says bassist Cam Ewart. “I remember walking back out to the stage to grab some of the gear. The next thing I knew, I was knocked to the stage as the side tent blew in. I stood up and ran off the stage area to our trailer behind the stage. Driven by adrenalin, we ran back out after a few seconds to save our gear that was scattered across the stage. As we brought things down from the stage, we looked over at where the main stage had been - that four-story stage was down. It had just collapsed in on itself. Our first thoughts were shock and concern for the musicians, technicians and fans that were at the stage. Having been there and seeing the damage first hand, I am incredibly thankful that there were not more people hurt or killed. It had the potential to be SO much worse. It was a very surreal experience.”

The stories the band heard throughout were incredible and inspiring. Stories abound of audience members with emergency medical skills jumping onto the main stage to support the paramedics, a technician who actually rode one of the stage towers down to the ground as it fell, and the incredible efforts of the Big Valley Jamboree staff and volunteers who reacted immediately and with precision to the emergency. According to singer-guitarist Scott Patrick, “The festival site looked like a war zone, but the evacuation of the grounds and the response of the Big Valley Jamboree organizers was swift and effective. Everyone was involved, even the telephone companies who took down service except for emergency crews and radio stations giving up to date information about the incident and informing people who had not heard from loved ones about the situation. The music fans who supported the evacuation effort and of course the many volunteers who were on site. We would like to thank the Festival organizers and the volunteers who ensured that this incident didn’t spiral out of control to the point that even more injuries occurred or more lives were lost.”

News from Sask Music- SaskMusic Grant and Showcase Travel Support Programs Suspended

June 5- SaskMusic is in the final stages of a transition from SaskCulture to the Saskatchewan Arts Board. Funding for SaskMusic and our programs will now come through the Arts Board.

Over the past few years SaskMusic has been fortunate to be able to offer several grant programs to the music industry of Saskatchewan, although the demand has always outstripped the available funding. This year, due to this shift over to the Arts Board, SaskMusic will be awaiting a decision on our own levels of funding until sometime over the summer. Unfortunately, until we have that information, we are unable to predict what level of funding we will be able to invest in our fall SaskMusic programming. The SaskMusic Board has thus decided to wait for that decision to come in before we confirm the design and delivery of our programs for our fiscal year running Sept. 2009-Aug. 2010.

Consequently, the SaskMusic Grant deadline previously scheduled for September 15, as well as the Showcase Travel Support Program, are immediately suspended until further notice. The Board is committed to have information on our new fall programming to members as soon we have reviewed the decision from the Arts Board.

For more information, please contact J.P. Ellson, Chief Operating Officer, SaskMusic: 1-800-347-0676 or jpellson@saskmusic.org.

News from PACMA's President

April 30, 2009 - This is to officially notify the members of the Prince Albert Country Music Association of the 2009 Annual General Meeting that will be held on May 19, 2009 at 7:00 in the log cabin on the Prince Albert Exhibition Grounds. I believe that this will be a very important AGM, with our organization being at a crossroads that will determine it's future viability.

There are several regular AGM items that will be dealt with, including election of Officers, Financial Statement and the state of the organization address by the President. I would like to address the latter item at this time.

I indicated earlier that we have reached a crossroads. Interest in PACMA appears to have reached an all time low. Meetings are poorly attended, if anyone shows at all, other than the regular 4-5 members that are at most of the meetings. The current production that we were going to have on stage, The Country Gospel show, has been cancelled due to a lack of enough members to produce and perform in it. As an executive, we have to be wondering if there is any point in having monthly meetings that are poorly attended to perpetuate an organization whose members have no interest in being involved in it. And while financially, we have strength, it make no sense to be renting a facility for meetings that have that kind of result.

A proposal has come forward that PACMA discontinue monthly meetings, and hold 1 AGM per year. This meets the requirements of our constitution, and the Corporations Branch, allowing PACMA to continue to function, no doubt, at a level more suitable to the level of member involvement. The bank accounts would be maintained and held accountable at the AGM. The Bursary Committee would continue to function, with information about it being included on the SCMA website. At a time where there in enough interest generated at an AGM, a higher level of organizational activity would be an easy transition, as the structure of PACMA would remain in place.

This is a topic, that while uncomfortable, needs to be addressed. I look forward to seeing as many members at this meeting as possible, to give this proposal the careful consideration and discussion that I believe PACMA deserves.

Larry Krause, President
Prince Albert Country Music Association

Northern Lights Bluegrass Festival

March 18 - The Northern Lights Bluegrass and Old Tyme Music Festival (Aug 14-16) will be held near Big River, SK. This rustic, quaint site is situated in a lovely little clearing in the boreal forest, just to the west of Prince Albert National Park (though you have to take the Big River highway to get there). While the grounds are better known as the home of the Ness Creek Music Festival, this particular weekend will be dedicated to a smaller and quieter, more distinctive audience. Some call this region “God’s Country”, and yes, there will be plenty of gospel to fill the skies too. Camping and RVs are the norm, and food services will also be on site for the weekend. This year’s lineup includes Sierra Hull & Highway 111, The Spinney Brothers, Viper Central, Woodbend, Gumby & The Pokeys, and more. In keeping with Bluegrass festival tradition, a Music camp will also be held at the festival site August 11-14.

News from Darrel delaRonde

February 20 -Hello from Darrel delaRonde & Saskia. We are very excited to be releasing our new 2009 cd from Positive Note Records entitled “Burlap & Bindertwine”. This album is a compilation of songs from some of our older cd’s including the 1995 released “Family Tree” which is long out of print, plus some new material and very old tunes never before recorded. We’ve also thrown in friend Gary Fjellgaard’s “Billy Miner” because it’s such a grand song.

We call this sound “Country-Roots” because it just does not fit in modern Nashville country music, and oh well, we’re having fun anyway. The songs are hard-hitting rock and roll country, and will be a surprising twist for some of our older fans! Along with our drummer Tomas Netzel from Costa Rica; we are having a lot of fun with our new band name “THE STOOKS”. This cd was lovingly created at Sundae Sound in Calgary with Tom and Dave Alcock producing, and has some of Cowtown’s finest players laying down their best licks. This cd is available on-line at www.stooks.ca or www.saskia.ca or off the stage at one of our performances.

News from Codie Prevost

January 15 - If you haven't heard of Codie Prevost yet, you soon will. With two CDs and several country music awards to his name, he is clearly a man on the way to the top. But his path to fame and fortune started in a rather unusual place: at his local Community Futures office.
Community Futures has been around for over 20 years. In that time, they have awarded tens of thousands of loans to aspiring entrepreneurs in rural areas. But it will probably come as a surprise that a young country singer would qualify.
In 2005, Prevost was a driven and talented nineteen year old with everything he needed to record his first CD - everything, that is, except the money to get to Nashville. So, he took his dream to Community Futures. "You know you love music, but you're not sure how to make a career of it. There are so many obstacles," says Prevost. Fortunately, Community Futures specializes in helping clients navigate the road to business success.
Prevost submitted his business plan, and had a rather unusual interview with the Community Futures loans evaluation committee. "They called me into the board meeting and wanted me to play some songs for them. They phoned me a few days later and said I got the loan and from there things just took off."
Now Prevost is working with Community Futures again, in a rather different capacity: as spokesman for their campaign to introduce seven new loans products designed to meet the needs of a wide variety of rural entrepreneurs. "Music is a business, and Community Futures really helped me with the skills and confidence to succeed as a businessperson - one who just happens to be a musician," says Prevost. "I'm happy to help them out in return."
Each of the new loans fulfills a particular need. There is a short term loan, a line of credit, and a loan designed to finance innovation, marketing and/or training - investments crucial to growing and improving a business, but that traditional financial institutions often won't cover. Interested entrepreneurs can start the loan application at www.roadahead.biz, and a response is guaranteed within 10 business days of submitting a completed application. "People need financial decisions to be made quickly so they can react to opportunities," says Community Futures Alberta Executive Director Jon Close.
Community Futures can often loan money when banks are unable to assist. In fact, many financial institutions refer clients to local Community Futures as another financing option.
A marketing campaign launched to spread the word to small business uses the tagline "The Road Ahead" - the name of Prevost's first CD. "It is a perfect fit," says Close. "Codie's story embodies everything we're trying to help our clients achieve."

These are just a part of what is going on this summer for Larry Krause. His Prairie based Western Music has caught the ear of organizers at the Stampede, and he'll be performing on July 4. He has also been invited to be a part of the Country Gospel Sunday that will be held there on July 5.

In the meantime, he is back in the studio at Riverbend Sound, in St. Louis, working on his next album. The CD, which features the Western songs that he has become known for, will have a few surprises on it. The album is tentatively slated for national release in the spring.

News from Wyatt

January 12- ROCK COUNTRY MEETS MUSIC CITY. The time has finally come for fans to dust off their cowboy boots and turn up their radios - WYATT is back in the studio, recording a new album for 2009

WYATT is bringing their brand of Rock Country to Music City Nashville Tennessee. After lead singers Scott Patrick and Danny Fortier had embarked on a few Nashville writing trips, recording in music city just seemed to be the perfect fit.
"Nashville’s truly every musician's dream. When you walk down Music Row, you are instantly inspired and feel as though you are living a part of history. Every great writer, musician, and artist has spent time walking the streets in Nashville. To be standing in the same footsteps as some of the greatest is a song in itself", comments Daniel Fortier, guitarist and vocals.
WYATT has taken the last year to tour, connect with their fans, and focus on the music. "We have amazing fans and supporters. We want them to feel just as much a part of this album as we are and don't want to put anything on an album that they can't connect with" says drummer Bray Hudson, "We play everything live before we decide to record and love getting feedback". The band has also drawn inspiration from their experiences as they crisscross the country through a blur of honky tonks, bars, and festivals. "Sometimes, it's like being a Ringleader in a three ring circus" quips Hudson.
The transition of songs from the stage to studio can be a difficult feat, particularly when trying to stay true to "Rock Country". Form Nashville producer Noah Gordon (Jason Blaine), has become the latest team member looking to take on that challenge. Pulling from a catalogue of material, you can look forward to hearing new songs written by WYATT and their good friends Noah Gordon, Willie Mack, Troy Kokol, and more. The recently locked themselves away in Music City for 10 days with Noah as they ride together along the musical edge known as Rock Country.
“It was great to be working alongside such incredible people to help us craft the best possible songs to introduce us to the next level”. Expresses lead singer Scott Patrick.
"Earlier in the week we got to meet this, leather wearing, scruffy looking guy (who had an aura of COOL about him), in the studio which turns out to be the one and only Jamey Johnson – who was sitting at #7 at that time on the US charts with his new album - the Lonesome song– this was after a visit to the studio from Jason Blaine and Tim McGraw’s Manager earlier in the week” further mentions Patrick.
“So we are tracking on a Wednesday evening, word comes in that Jamey’s album just got nominated for 3 Grammys. Two of the players helping us on the tracks (Jim “Moose” Brown and Kevin “Swine” Grantt,) happened to of played on that album.” Bass player Cam Ewart adds.
“Noah’s engineer TW Cargile (twiddling the knobs on our 3 initial tunes), who manned the board for the album was also nominated. They then had to prep for a stint on Letterman’s show the following Tuesday the, day we flew home, very unique experience” quotes Ewart again.
“They all put in extra time on these songs of their own accord as they were totally digging the songs”, Hudson notes.
“that was a lot of fun ya’ll – good tunes’’ was quoted by Moose.
So as you can imagine there was a lot of extremely good energy in that room that day, which we personally think, has spilled over into the finished product.
So far industry insiders have given the songs a firm nod of approval, and the first single will be hitting airwaves in the upcoming months.
Keep it Rock Country Yall...........

Johner Brothers Reunite for New Year's Show!

December 10, 2008 - After a seven year break, one of Canada's most successful duos, The Johner Brothers, will take the stage together again for a one time reunion show. "A lot of fans wanted to see us together again," explained Brad Johner, "so I spoke to my brother Ken and we thought why not."

The show will take place at Saskatoon's Prairieland Park on New Year's Eve and will feature Brad and Ken Johner playing the Johner Brothers hit music that marked them one of Canada's hottest country acts in the 1990s. Brad said, "We're going to be playing the songs that we started out with and the music people used to come to see us for."

But the music won't be the only thing reminiscent of The Johner Brother era. Backing up the duo will be the original band members that took the stage with them years ago."The old band members are really looking forward to getting together again and what a better way to celebrate than with the music we created together," explained Brad. Adding their talents to the show will be original band members Dale Luedtke on Bass guitar and Phil Nelson on drums as well as Bart McKay on Keyboard and Shaun Beavis on Bass guitar. Bart enjoyed a 12 year stint with the brothers while Shaun performed the final eight years with the duo. Both continue to perform with Brad through out his solo career along with Mike Thompson who played drums for the Johner Brothers the final year.

So does this mean we can expect a relaunch of The Johner Brothers' music career in 2009? "No," laughed Brad, "this is only a one night event!"

For information on where to purchase tickets for the show visit Prairieland Park at www.saskatoonnewyears.com/tickets.html.

News from P.A.C.M.A. President

November 18, 2008 - At the monthly P.A.C.M.A. meeting, several things of note came about.  It was decided unanimously, that our monthly meetings will be moved to the third Tuesday of the month, as opposed to the current third Monday. The reason for this, is that so many of our members are involved with performing at the Northern Lights Casino on Monday nights. It is recognized that the perfect day will be impossible to find, but this eliminates a major conflict for many members.

Also, please note the December meeting will be cancelled, due to the busy holiday season ahead. Meetings will resume at the log cabin on the PAEX grounds Tuesday, January 20, 2009.

Brad Johner Helps Raise 3000 Child Sponsorships for Impoverished Children Worldwide

Brad Johner in Nicaragua

When World Vision set out to find 1000 new child sponsorships from the province of Saskatchewan, they enlisted the partnership of long time artist associate, Brad Johner. Johner's participation began when he boarded a plane to Nicaragua where he spent four days viewing the work of the organization and shooting television spots for the campaign which would air later that summer.
To officially launch the Saskatchewan 1000 Campaign at the local level, Brad hosted a concert which featured performances by Michelle Wright, Charlie Major, and Theresa Sokyrka.
Later that month, he supported additional World Vision events including the opening of the One Life Pavilion and lent his signature personality to the cause by appearing on TV, radio shows, posters and mail box flyers. In the end World Vision not only reached their goal but nearly tripled it, recording 2991 new sponsorships within the six week period.
"Saskatchewan people have a history of taking care of their neighbors whether across the road, province or country," Johner commented. "I'm proud of the people of Saskatchewan and extremely happy we trippled the goal for this campaign. It's gratifying to know that 3000 children living in extreme poverty will be saved worldwide."

Also, Getting hold of one of Larry's compact discs in Prince Albert just got a whole lot easier! All you  have to do is stop in at the Prince Albert Tourism booth, in the log cabin on the south side of PA, right on highway 2 (2nd Avenue West), and check out the display of local artists CD's and pick one up.

A big thanks to the great folks there, for both having the CD's in their gift shop, as well as their promoting local music events. Besides the Prince Albert Tourism booth, Larry's cd's are also available at Parables Book Store and McNally Robinson, Saskatoon, Frank Almer Music, Prince Albert and on Larry's website, www.larrykrause.ca
